Mfaume
Mfaume and his colleagues are talented woodcarvers ,they reside in
Dar-esSalaam, Tanzania, They have a unique concept and outlook towards
the process that takes them to produce their beautiful wood carvings,
It takes between three to four people to produce a traditional African
Chair, Zanzibar Chest, a chess game or a Sculpture!.....and the process
begins from when the wood is chosen, cut to size ... sculpted and
finally sanded and polished!, ..... It is precisely why no single
person signs it.......Kind of like the Ujamaa Concept. A manifestation
of the collective effort within a community. Its emphasis is on the
cooperative spirit of all who contribute to a joint endeavor.
Regardless to the skill level each artisan has contributed towards
producing a masterpiece!....that they are all equally proud of! Welcome
to ZIZINI's back room to view some of their woodwork...many of which
are now featured at our shop ZIZINI. Below is some of the process
depicted by Mfaume, and one of his apprentices.
