January
21: Charity
begins at home! and when many people's memories are
begining to fade about the worst natural disaster in
our recent history that hit the homes and businesses
of our beloved New Orleans, the young women and men
of Tabor Academy in Marion, under the charismatic leadership
of Mike Lombardi organized a Jazz Festival to raise
funds for the victims of this calamity named Katrina.
I thought the most outstanding legacy they showed us
is that they still remember and care enough to take
action. Gathering musicians from as far away as California,
there were five bands in total; "Four Guys in Tuxes","The
Bodhi Tree", "The Romana Borthwick Quintet",
"The North Street Connection" (An amazing
students Jazz band!) and " The Robert Gastelum
Latin Jazz Collective". Students were able to raise
more than $4,000
at
this event .
All proceeds will benefit victims
through the New Orleans Teach for America Disaster Relief
Fund, New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund, Touru
Infirmary Foundation and New Orleans Public Library
Foundation. ZIZINI's contribution was through Allan's
Art titled "When Music Made Colors" it sold!
