Burke's Testimonial
Since
childhood I have harbored a desire to see Africa. I have imagined
the sights,..... the sounds,...... the smells that would always
fill my imagination with awe and wonder. In March of 2001,
I journeyed to Tanzania and Kenya. What I experienced was
incredible and far beyond my most vivid imaginings.
One cannot begin to describe the vast Serengeti, the sights
of hundreds of elephant families majestically traversing the
brush, touching each other with their trunks, a group of lions
sleeping on a rock outcrop "kopje" with bellies
full, extraordinarily graceful giraffes lumbering across our
path close enough to hear their breath and see their large
soft eyes.......and long eyelashes, .....the overwhelming
magnitude of over six million ..... massive wildebeest migrating
across the plains until the horizon appears as one solid black
line. All these things....I dreamed of and imagined and experienced.
But who could anticipate the unexpected.......? the soul of
a people so rich in warmth and spirit, generously welcoming
me whether in bustling streets of
Dar-es-Salaam or the most remote villages the majesty of the
Maasai living much as they have for centuries, the beauty
of the rolling plains blanketed with wildflowers, the awe
of seeing Mt. Kilimanjaro's snow covered summit after emerging
from a trail through a dense, humid rain forest.
I
recall these memories with great pleasure but also with incredible
longing to return to this extraordinary, vibrant part of the
world!!
